Meet Daniel van Gijn

Daniel van Gijn is a double fellowship trained Consultant Head and Neck surgeon specialising in facial plastic surgery. He has travelled globally to achieve the best surgical training available and is fully certified and indemnified.

Daniel qualified with honours in both medicine and dentistry, and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England on completion of surgical training. He has extensive experience in reconstructive head, neck and facial surgery having trained in a number of world-renowned hospitals within London, Oxford, Surrey, East Grinstead, South Africa and Sydney.

He has received numerous undergraduate and postgraduate prizes and awards for his clinical, academic and technical excellence. He undertook a highly competitive one year fellowship in Sydney, focusing on head and neck cancer, complex skin cancer and microvascular reconstructive surgery.

This was followed by appointment as an NHS Consultant Head and Neck oncology and facial reconstructive surgeon. Daniel then completed a bespoke and highly prestigious full time facial plastic surgery fellowship focusing on deep plane facial rejuvenation with Dominic Bray. He is one of only a few surgeons in the UK specialising exclusively in facial aesthetic surgery.

He is the principle author of the Oxford Handbook of Head and Neck anatomy published by Oxford University Press and has written four book chapters – covering topics from skin cancer reconstructive techniques, anatomy of the eye and the management of complications in facelift surgery.

He has written multiple peer-reviewed papers and has presented scientific research at International conferences worldwide.

Outside of work, Daniel has earned the coveted green beret on completion of Royal Marines Commando training and has undertaken Ironman distance triathlon and several marathons.

He has travelled widely, including covering over 40,000 miles from Ushuaia, at the bottom of South America to Prudhoe bay at the northernmost tip of Alaska on a vintage motorbike. He is married to Polly and is dad to three young boys.
