What is a lower facelift?

Patients who begin to experience early signs of ageing that affect the jawline, jowls and chin often request a lower facelift. The primary objective of this surgery is to target the typical signs of facial ageing in the lower third of the face and achieve a rejuvenated and more youthful appearance.

What are the results?

A lower facelift can expertly tighten and lift the skin around your jawline, giving you a more defined and youthful appearance. It’s a surgical procedure that’s designed to restore firmness and rejuvenate your face by addressing excess and sagging skin. The results are a smoother, more youthful facial contour.

What’s the difference between the lower and full facelift procedures?

The lower facelift specifically targets the lower face, whereas a mid-facelift or upper facelift focuses on the cheeks, eyes, brow and forehead. The lower face lift is less invasive than the likes of a deep plane facelift and can be performed under local anaesthetic, with patients able to return home the same day as surgery.

What does a lower facelift procedure involve?

There is less pre-op preparation required for lower facelift surgery compared to more complex face and neck lift procedures. That’s not to say your wellbeing and safety will not be prioritised – all patients are required to attend an initial consultation followed by a second preoperative meeting if necessary.

The face and neck area will be numbed completely with a local anaesthetic before small incision sites are made where necessary. Dominic Bray will then perform a SMAS plication or imbrication procedure to remove the excess skin.

Recovery from facelift surgery

This type of facelift technique tends to heal quickly due to its minimally invasive nature and does not require you to stay in the hospital overnight. Stitches are normally removed after one week and you can expect to see fully healed results within 12 weeks.

We would advise staying off work for 5 – 7 days to give yourself plenty of time to rest.

Why do people choose a facelift for the lower face?

Sagging skin is more commonly found on the lower face as excess skin is pulled downwards by gravity as part of the natural ageing process. As we age, our skin loses elasticity resulting in unwanted loose skin.

Lower facelift surgery can restore a youthful appearance with the simple removal of this excess skin. It’s a type of facelift surgery that’s preferred by patients who don’t want to commit to a full facelift procedure.

Is there a best age for a lower facelift procedure?

Facelift surgery of this nature is best suited to those who are just beginning to notice the early signs of ageing. You might have moderate skin laxity and have been considering surgical procedures like jowl lift surgery for some time.

How long will my face lift last?

It is challenging to determine an exact timeline for the longevity of the facelift procedure, as every face is unique. Unlike a traditional facelift, a lower facelift does not involve a complete repositioning of sagging facial tissues or deep ligament release. Lower Face Lift

As a result, the results may not be as long-lasting compared to procedures like the deep plane face and neck lift. It’s important to note that there are no guarantees with any surgical procedure, but Dominic Bray has had patients who have enjoyed their youthful appearance as a result of the lower facelift for up to 5 years.

What is the difference between a lower facelift and a neck lift?

Many aspects of a lower facelift and neck lift procedure are the same. Some lower facelifts may not involve the tightening of the platysma muscle in the neck however. Neck lift surgery may also involve the removal of excess fat and volume.

If you are unsure which type of cosmetic procedure is right for you, we invite you to attend an initial consultation with Dominic Bray where we’ll explore all of the options available to you.
